Business Education 10
The business education 10 course is progressing through our finance unit. Currently, students are involved in a stock market challenge. Each student is given a million dollars to invest in a portfolio of stocks, precious metals and currencies. They are using a spreadsheet to track investment totals over a month long period. Students have been learning about finances, stock markets, mortgages, credit cards, loans, taxes, RRSP’s, financing, interest rates, investments, real-estate, metals, crypto-currencies, credit ratings and more. Now they are working on developing a bottled water company brand. They will be designing a logo, writing a slogan, creating a business card and letterhead, doing ads, designing a label and creating a web site. These assignments are skill based projects that incorporate many business concepts.
The infotech class is working on their gaming computer build. Each student is building a high end gaming system using various components found through internet research. They will be designing the unit and branding it. They will be creating an animated web ad to advertise their gaming system. Lastly, they are creating a WordPress website with a storefront to sell their system and other peripherals. We have completed 10 hours of coding and gaming units. Students have done coding according to their own interests and choices using various languages such a C, Java, Python, scratch etc. Students designed some basic animations in flash to learn the interface, including landscapes, stickman movies and walking cycles. The gaming unit allows students to code, debug and solve problems as well as change the theme and objects.
This senior course has been working on four business ideas for a food truck, green business, subscription business, adventure tourism company. They developed the branding via names, logos and slogans. Moreover, they did a one-page business plan, ads, a pamphlet, menu, billboard and delivery box design. The class did a case study of the book the E-Myth – an in depth study of 25,000 businesses and the common mistakes of the businesses that failed. Moreover, students have studied the structure and contents of a business plan using the MOOT World Champion plan for a company that sells coffee machines that replace Baristas.

We have most of the class activated but still some have not sent in the activation assignments. Assignments 2-5 are due at the end of the semester for your first mark in the course.
